Scopes & Rings

IF you have the right scope. Your scope must let you see your target clearly. It must help you determine the distance, bullet drop, and wind drift. And it must do it quickly and precisely.

Our precision scopes combine the legendary optical quality of our standard hunting scopes, the most appropriate magnification ranges, and a sophisticated mildot reticule (developed by the U.S. Marine Corps) with a bullet drop compensator to give you the ability and confidence to place an accurate shot at up to 1000 yards. Many different models are available:

We can supply all makes of scopes, from the budget scope through to the professional requiring the optics for absolute clarity in low light conditions; giving options of first or second plane fixing of the reticules and also illuminated reticules, for night shooting and low light conditions.

Nightforce riflescopes are designed to perform under the worst imaginable conditions. Exceptional attention to detail is given to the mechanical design and assembly. All pre-production riflescope models have undergone an extensive battery of tests in validating the design prior to manufacturing.

During the testing process riflescopes are subjected to extreme environmental torture tests. Nightforce NXS riflescopes are tested in a pressure tank simulating 100 feet of water for 24 hours. Thermal stability is tested by freezing the scopes in a nitrogen atmosphere to -80 degrees Fahrenheit and then heated to 250 degrees Fahrenheit in a one-hour period. Function is checked at both temperature extremes. Recoil and impact is tested at 1,250 Gs for both positive and negative forces.

Materials used in the construction of Nightforce scopes provide the Armour for the optical system. Although Nightforce scopes tend to be slightly heavier than other manufacturers, this is directly related to the longevity and overall quality of the components used. For example, the thickness of the tube body of Nightforce scopes is two to three times thicker than most any other riflescope. This adds to the thermal stability which aids in maintaining a consistent zero and reduces deformation of internal components, thus improving tracking and repeatability.

Optical elements are retained in a machined cell of 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminium, then hand bedded with a proprietary Mil-Spec bedding compound and cured at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours.

nightforce2All lenses are then further secured by lock rings both fore and aft. This zero-tolerance lens securing method is unique to the Nightforce riflescope line, assuring no possible movement of the optical elements from impact in any direction including side impact. Surface hardened brass silicon bronze (BSB), high strength steel and technically advanced dry film lubricants are predominately used in the manufacturing of our erector tube and adjustment assemblies. These core components promote exceptional wear resistance.

Nightforce riflescopes provide the essential tool required for those demanding total performance.

Schmidt & Bender 4-16 x 50 Precision Hunter Scope with Parallax Adjustment and mil-dot reticule.

Set on 4 power, the mil-dot reticule with fine crosshairs and four posts allows quick target acquisition. Turned up to 16 power, the mil-dots become visible and can be used for range, trajectory and windage calculations. The top-mounted bullet drop compensator has 5mm (1/5") clicks, permitting quick adjustments up to 500 yards.

The windage adjustment also has 5mm (1/5") clicks, allowing for precise sighting in. The standard elevation adjustment knob has graduations and numbers that allow you to create a meaningful distance chart for your preferred calibre. A blank elevation knob can be special-ordered with markings you can specify after sighting in your rifle.

A parallax adjustment is conveniently located in a third turret on the left side. This allows you to easily make necessary adjustments with the rifle shouldered, ready to shoot.schmidt

The majority of scope and consistency problems can be traced to improper mounting. Unless you are skilled in mounting riflescopes, we recommend that you have a qualified gunsmith mount your Schmidt & Bender riflescope. Also, use the finest quality rings and bases possible. It makes little sense to put one of the world's finest riflescopes on a fine rifle with poor quality mounts forming the critical link.

General mounting guidelines
Like most European scopes, Schmidt & Bender have a relatively short adjustment range. Thus, they often work best with scope mounts that have both windage and elevation adjustments built into them. Schmidt & Bender hunting scopes are equipped with a reticle position indicator which shows you the position of the reticle within its internal adjustment range. The screw that is visible in the indicator should not be touched or adjusted.

Any scope should be mounted with the reticle as close to its centered position as possible. This can be difficult when using scope mounts limited in their adjustment range or with no adjustment at all. The dimensions of individual rifles and actions can vary widely from gun to gun; that fact, combined with the incredibly wide variety of scope mounts, can present real challenges and frustration in finding the right combination.

Schmidt & Bender scopes are made to extremely tight tolerances. Thus, it is very important to avoid any stress upon the scope when it is mounted, as this can have a major affect on accuracy. Consult your dealer or a knowledgeable gunsmith for recommendations.

Click values
The "click values" — the amount of reticle movement caused by one click of the elevation or adjustment rings on a Schmidt & Bender scope—varies from model to model. Refer to individual scope specifications for details.

Hunting and Shooting

Why do more hunters and shooters worldwide turn to Leupold® to meet their optics needs? Maybe it’s because we’re hunters and shooters ourselves, and understand the unique pleasures and pains that come with success or failure in shooting. We put a full century’s worth of experience into every riflescope, spotting scope, binocular, and accessory we make, because we know you would too.

Scope Ring & Bases

We can supply all makes of rings and bases, for new and old models of rifles. The importance of mounting good quality optic with good quality rings and bases cannot be over emphasised.

We have a comprehensive range of scopes, rings, bases and Butler Creek flip up covers, at realistic prices - please phone or email us for a competitive quotation.

optilockSako Optilock™ mount keeps the scope centred in all conditions.

The scope rests in a tight but gentle grip of the evolutionary ball-bearing type ring.

The clasping force is distributed evenly along the scope shaft, not spot like as in conventional mounts, ensuring your valuable optics won't become twisted or scratched. The mounting of the scope is easier and the point of impact stays intact if the scope and mounts are removed as a unit.

Available in 1" / 25,4 mm and 30 mm diameters and 3 heights, also in stainless, to fit any scope.
